Michael Binko is Founder | CEO of Startup Maryland.  Mike is also president| CEO, angel investor and a member of the Board of Directors for kloudtrack® — a leading provider of cybersecurity and cloud (Cyber | Cloud) data and process management technologies and solution services.

A serial entrepreneur and active angel investor, Binko founded and currently still serves as Managing General Partner of Gemini Venture, a private investment and venture capital firm concentrating on seed-stage companies in the software, SaaS | Cloud, mobile computing, internet, clean | green, social networking, enterprise data management, new media and related IT sectors.

Prior to Gemini, Binko co-founded and served as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for LaunchFuel Inc. – a Reston, Virginia-based for-profit venture accelerator also working with emerging technology companies helping them become strong candidates for venture capital, private equity and other growth financing.

Prior to co-founding LaunchFuel, Binko directed corporate ventures and development for PSINet, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSIX). In this role, Binko was lead executive and principal negotiator for acquisitions and business combinations in a wide variety of vertical industries.  Previously with PSINet, Binko directed a variety of strategic sales, marketing and communication/IR functions, reporting directly to the Chairman | CEO.

Binko earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees (with honors) in both Business Communications and English from James Madison University and is also a graduate of the Innovation Management program offered jointly by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and A. James Clark School of Engineering.

He has served as an instructor in the Corporate Ventures program with George Washington University (D.C. and Va.), serves as a business evaluator for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and is an accredited practitioner in business communications designated by APR.  He was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for both the Software and Public Sector Innovation Divisions of the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA).

Binko is also a graduate of MindShare®, an invitation-only program for CEOs of disruptive/innovative companies in hyper-growth technology sectors, serves on the MindShare Alumni Board, and is a member of the serial entrepreneur ecosystem – FounderCorps.

More recently, Binko was asked to serve on the NIST Cloud Computing Working Group related to Use Case Scenarios that will be utilized by the U.S. Federal Government as agencies migrate to cloud computing.  These Use Cases are typically agency-level pilot projects that are considered strong candidates for FedRAMP certification under the guidelines defined by the CIO Council in tandem with the Office of the U.S. Federal CIO.
